Creativity

Greetings All,
Each week I publish a “Image of the Week” newsletter and it forces me to get out and be creative with my camera. Being creative and photography certainly go hand in hand and connecting with your subject is a must. Sometimes this is a tall task. Like the rest of the world there are many distractions in my life, anywhere from the minor things to the major issues. As long as things are running smoothly you feel good, things seem to fall into place and in general life is good! Once your mind is clear the creativity seems to flow. For me, water is a calming element and spending some time near it helps rejuvenate my soul!
Remember, It’s all about harmony in one’s life.

Full Moon Fever

Greeting all, Last night we had a full lunar eclipse and like most photographers I thought I would try my hand at capturing the moon. It was an odd night with patches of snow passing through the area with breaks in the clouds allowing us to see the moon as it played hide and seek. The eclipse was slated to start at 8:43 pm, so I gathered up my gear so I would be ready to head out to the deck. I watched for a while with my binoculars before trading them in on my camera and tripod. I made several images before getting the exposure right. I started out trying aperture priority, without any success I might add, and then switched to manual mode. Once shooting in manual it didn’t take long before I got it right. This image was shot with a 400mm lens (600mm film equivalent) with a shutter speed of 1/500 second and an aperture of f/5.6. I use an ISO of 800, which produced a lot of noise. (I forgot to turn on my noise reduction in the camera) then ran it though NIK’s DFINE program to reduce the noise.

Simpler Times

I read a great article in this month’s Outdoor Photographer by Dewitt Jones, title “My Convenience”. The article really hit home for me. It addresses the fact that so many people including myself are addicted to technology. I have to be honest; I am constantly checking my emails to make sure I don’t miss a thing! This morning was no different. I got up had my shower brushed my teeth and shaved. I then headed down the steps to make the coffee and of course “check my email”. As I sat there staring at the computer I glanced outside and say the beautiful color in the sky. Right then I thought I need to get up and go outside to enjoy the sunrise. So I put my coat on and went out. Although it was cold it felt good to stand there enjoying the view and breathing the fresh air!

Storm Front

Greetings,
As the storm front pushed through today it reminded me of how dramatic the landscape becomes during the fringe time. Normally this happens right before or after the
front moves into or out of an area.

Amish Mud Sale Series

Greeting All,

Every spring Lancaster County has a series of firehouse sales that are dubbed "Mud Sales". For the past four years now I have been attending and photographing the events in order to put a solid theme together for publishing. Well, this weekend was the first of the series and I wanted to share some of my images...
