Here's another fun image from Kelly's English Garden. I guess I should backup a bit and give you a little background here. For 18 years now Kelly has been growing an English Garden in our backyard. She has so many different flowers planted it is constantly changing to match what's blooming at the moment. I should also mention that my son and I built a nice little fish and frog pond with a soothing waterfall in the back corner of the garden. It's a nice sanctuary without leaving home.
As the title implies one would think I made this image during a soft summer rain shower. Well that's not really the case here. I actually setup my tripod and grab the garden hose and sprinkled away. It's an easy shot to pull off plus its fun getting it just right.
First you need a few flowers that are back-lit. Then aim your camera towards the light source without actually including the source in the frame. Then grab your hose set it to sprinkle and water the flowers. Be careful not to water your camera as this might be unpleasant for the electronics. I've noticed that you can capture the streaks with a shutter speed ranging anywhere from 1/30 to 1/250 of a second with 1/30 being very subtle and 1/250 making the streaks more pronounced.

Hello Everyone,
Sunday, Nick Dibernardo and I visited Tucquan Glen with hopes of capturing the Rhododendron in bloom along the creek. But as fate would have it we were about a week late.Very few blooms were left and only in certain areas, (the more shaded ones). Anyway, I always seem to be able to pull off a decent creek shot and I was pretty happy with this one!
If anyone is interested in attending my Blackwater Falls workshop, don't wait I'm almost full! I would love to have you :-)

Today I had an opportunity to try out my new Vari-ND filter and see how it would perform. I waited till the light was a bit brighter than I normally would when shooting creeks or water scenes. My goal was to drag the shutter long enough to get a nice slow motion in the creek. Well success on the filter's part. I pulled off a three (3) second exposure on a clear blue sky day at around 9am without any color shifts… not bad!
