Star Trails East

Hello Everyone,

As promised I wanted to share an image that I made last night. It was a last minute decision to head out for a couple of hours to shoot star trails. I wanted a location that was dark enough to be able to pull off a long enough exposure without blowing everything out. My son told me of a spot called Money Rocks that faced north overlooking the valley so we tried that location first. It had a beautiful view but unfortunately the tree coverage was too thick to see the sky as well as I was hoping for. I had researched another spot on the internet that a local astronomy group uses up on Welsh Mountain and thought we should try it. It was dark when we arrived at the new place and although it was a nice spot to see the sky it really didn't have any interesting foreground. Plus walking in (without my compass) in the dark I got disoriented and didn't face the camera north like I was supposed to. Oh well, next time I'll be a bit more prepared!

The first image I light painted the trees for about 10 minutes and the following 101 exposures were at 30 seconds each, then I combined them all in Photoshop. My total time was about one hour with the shutter open.

Solitude

Hello Everyone,

The past two evenings we have had amazing sunsets and a great afterglow here in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Sunrise on the other hand has been so so, as I'm sure many of you can attest to… I made this image this morning in the Doe Run area. I liked how the lone tree stood tall overlooking the valley below and the angle of the lines.

Smiling Lines

Happy Labor Day Weekend,

This morning Kelly and I were up early and on the road with hopes of catching a striking sunrise with a field of sunflowers in the foreground. Well we did get the field of sunflowers, as the sunrise was lack luster to say the least. But we had great diffused light which allowed us to work much longer than a clear day!
