MK Controls “Lightning Bug” Camera Lightning Trigger

Good morning,
I wanted to share with you a slick product that is on the market for capturing lightning strikes. This product “Lightning Bug” is made by MK Controls. The Lightning Bug is designed to take pictures of lightning strikes and get the shot, day or night. My good friend Gary Farber at Hunts connected the two of us so that I could evaluate the Lightning Bug.
So a few months back my son and I decided we were going to give this thing a workout. The only difficult thing for us is normally if we have lightning we have very heavy rains here in the Northeast making it difficult to capture great lightning shots without being soaked. So, with that said, we went out in our front yard capturing the neighbor’s house with the passing storm to the north. It performed flawless and triggered the shutter with every lightning strike.
The above images were shot with a Tamron 10-24mm (extreme wide angle, pointed almost straight up) and they do show a tremendous example of what the lightning bug is capable of. All images are copyright of Zach Heaton.

Currently, Hunts Photo and Video is running a special pricing on the product:

Thanks for checking in, and stay tuned for many more images and notes from the field.
Best of Light,
